Chronicle, directed by Josh Trank, premiered on February 3rd as one of the most highly anticipated movies of the new year. Winning over both critics and fans alike, Chronicle beat out Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe in his new movie, The Women in Black, at the box office by an extra 1 million, pulling in $22 million in its opening weekend. The thriller satisfied its young adult audience’s need with excellent special effects and an intriguing plot.

Troubled teenager Andrew Detmer (Dane DeHaan) accompanies his cousin Matt Garetty (Alex Russell) and his best friend Steve Montgomery (Michael B. Jordan) to a rave in the middle of the woods only to stumble upon a radioactive hole in the dirt. Entering the suspicious opening, the boys gain powers of telekinesis from crystal rods, filming the entire process as they go. Although fun at first, the young boys soon learn that their powers can cause danger to others and as well as themselves.

The audience ate up the concept and fell in love with the characters and their struggles immediately.  While maintaining a dark mood, the film was able to keep its fans guessing and on their feet. The superb acting made the moviegoers feel like the problems the characters encountered were actually real. This movie leaves you wishing you had fallen down into a hole only to gain powers too.
